The Faith Dutton Yellow Shoes Memorial Scholarship
About
This $2,500 one-time scholarship, is awarded to a graduating Wando High School senior and a Philip Simmons High School senior (two separate scholarships are awarded) who best embody Faith’s words of “Be brilliant. Be fearless. Be kind.” The senior must also plan to attend a two-year or four-year college in the fall.

The Yellow Shoes Scholarship is sponsored by Hendrick Automotive Group of Charleston. Its generous yearly donation through Hendrick Cares helps brighten the future for a graduating Wando senior every year.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements for consideration:
Submit application and all necessary materials by May 8, 2026.
Compose a 500-600 word essay about what “Be brilliant. Be fearless. Be kind.” means to the applicant and how he or she has lived by this philosophy while a student at Wando or Simmons.
Receive two letters of recommendation from Wando or Simmons faculty members
Obtain an official transcript from the Wando Guidance Department or Simmons Guidance Department.
Yellow Shoes Foundation reserves the right to remove a candidate from consideration if it is found that he/she has engaged in conduct detrimental to the spirit and mission of the charity, and/or exhibits behavior that conflicts with the character of Faith Dutton and the mission of the charity in her name.
All application materials should be emailed to CONTACT@YELLOWSHOES.ORG by 4 p.m. on May 8, 2026.
Announcement
The two recipients of the scholarship will be announced in late May.
